Our Origin Story

Viska Strategies was born from a simple but powerful question: What would it take to make the workplace somewhere people genuinely thrive?

Dr. Kristen Thornton, founder of Viska Strategies, has spent her career at the intersection of data, people, and purpose. With a background spanning management consulting, people analytics, and higher education, Kristen has been driven by a deep commitment to understanding what helps people flourish at work.

Dr. Thornton's curiosity hasn't been limited by her formal roles. She has led and published mixed-method research—blending numbers with narratives—on the behavioral dynamics of thriving workplaces. As she shared this research, the response was clear: people were hungry for practical, meaningful ways to improve how they showed up at work and how they worked together. That’s when Viska Strategies took root.

Named for the Icelandic word meaning “wisdom,” Viska was created to give individuals, teams, and organizations the tools and insights they need to lead with intention, communicate with clarity, and work with purpose. Because with over 90,000 hours of our lives spent at work, the workplace should be more than tolerable—it should be delightful and transformative.
